The trailer of Betsy
In addition of this article, hereby a report on the restoration of the trailer. After a long time of searching for a suitable trailer, Morten found one just 10km away from his house. This trailer was built by Maur from Norway. The loading platform came from VBK and is made of fiberglass. When it was new, it was used in Northern Norway. It was restored by Knud Hansen in Padborg, Denmark. This company also had the Thermo King cooling engine and placed it in front of the trailer. The loading platform was removed and everything was painted. Then they put the loading platform ...
The trailer of Peter Wouters
The following story is about the trailer of the Scania R500. After some time driving around with only the colors blue and white, the trailer is now equipped with various logo's. If you have a little knowledge of Sties, you'll see that there is a difference between the logo's on the sides. On the right side is the old logo, including the old temperatur garanti logo. This logo was used often in the '70 and '80 on, for example, the following the trucks: Volvo F89, F1225, F12, Scania -141 -142. On the left side is the new logo, now without the comma ...
Peter Wouters his STIES Scania R500
Peter Wouters, of the same name transport company PWT Thermo, called me a while back with the question if I still was in contact with Øystein Stie. I told him that every now and then I’m calling him. Peter had a plan to buy a truck and paint it in the Sties colors, but didn’t know if it was alright to use Stie his name. I told Peter I would ask Øystein Stie if it was alright. Øystein Stie was surprised, but already used to people asking him about his former transport company. Peter got permission and could go making ...
Scale model of Arve’s FH12
The Volvo FH12 of Arve (Araber’n) Almerud. Built by and for Wim Varenkamp. This scale model is a completely renovated Tekno. Actually this scale model doesn’t belong on a Sties website, but Sties became Nor-Cargo and because of that it became a Nor-Cargo scale model. But since this scale model is so perfectly built, or rebuilt, it is still a big value, especially as it concerns a model of my dear friend Arve Almerud. This was certainly not the easiest truck to make a scale model of, but we will try to make a description of how it was built. There was a corner ...
Arve’s F12 made by Wim Varenkamp
Scale model of the Volvo F12 from Arve (Araber’n) Almerud. It is a Tekno model, created by and for Wim Varenkamp (scale 1:50). As a base for the model, the chassis of a Volvo FH was used. The cabin and front fenders are the one’s of a F12. To make the perfect model, Wim thought it would be important that the data was correct. That’s why he contacted the VBK factory to get the correct measurements for the containers. Unfortunately they had just cleaned up the archive at VBK, so there wasn’t any data left that he needed. Wim did get the name ...
A wish that came true
By: Gerrit de Heus. The following story is about the restoration of a Scania Streamline 143. This truck is from one of our southern neighbors, the Belgian Filip. Although there are Dutchmen who make fun of Belgian people, Filip is a guy to be taken serious, because of his big plans. And as far as Filip, I, as biggest Stiesfan (Gerrit), haven’t come yet, despite my large collection. This restoration kept me thinking, because in this truck you could move your museum in one piece, but now we let Filip do the talking: Filip: “From my childhood on, I’ve been bitten by ...
The Nor-cargo scale model of Kees de Heus
Scale model of Arve’s FH12. Made by Kees de Heus. The following description is about the scale model of Arve’s FH12 (scale 1:50) It is a Tekno model of the FH12. The loading platforms are made by himself, where the major difference lies in the fact that the doors on the side actually can be opened. So you can now also see the loading platforms from the inside. He needed much patience before he finally achieved it. The doors also had to turn, but there aren’t such small hinges. After having tested some things, the sticker, that was stuck over the entire side, ...
The Sties scale models of Leo de Heus (1:87)
Here’s a picture of a Scania 141 Combination. The Scania has the old logo of Sties. Above is a picture of a Scania 142 Combination. This Scania has, just like the 141, the old logo of Sties. Restored Scania 141
Sties is back on the road in the Netherlands. From my childhood on was I, Gerrit de Heus, already obsessed with the tough trucks from Scandinavia and especially with the Sties trucks. What started with shooting some pictures at the highway and making a model, has now become a Sties-collection at my house and 3 websites. “Even the walls are in Sties colors.” Since Sties changed into Nor-cargo, the striking color combinations gradually changed and are now completely gone due to the name change into BRING Frigoscandia. Because of this, it was a big pleasure when transporter Anton Timmerman reported to Gerrit that he ...
Model for driver Arne Kristoffersen – Mack F700
Although Stie used only Scania and Volvo in the early years, a Mack was imported. The driver was Arne Kristoffersen. Arne asked me to build a model of his truck. Since I have various stickers with all kinds of logos, it was not a problem at all. The model has a nice place at Arne’s home. Parts that were used came from Miho, Tekno and MOS.
